
Activities
Soon after the establishment of ENVIS centre on 'Desertification' (1991)
at CAZRI, Jodhpur the following activities were undertaken.
- All existing resources on desertification at CAZRI were identified and for the better and wider use a bibliography entitled 'Bibliography on Desertification and Soil Conservation' was brought out (1995-96 ).
- A 'Current Awareness Bulletin' (Monthly) is regularly brought out by the centre.
- The centre is providing original research articles/ bulletins/ reports/ monographs pertaining to Desertification to researchers, scientists, NGO's on demand.
- Free photocopy and search through AGRIS and CAB database is provided to researchers/ scientists visiting the centre.
- Various training programmes to make use available resources and databases created by the centre are organised for the institute scientists and others.
- Internet browsing and E-mail facilities are provided to the researchers/Scientists visiting the center.
- The centre is regularly sending reprints of the research articles on Desertification and its control for inclusion in the Paryavaran Abstract.
- Each year World Environment Day (5th June) is celebrated by way of organizing guest lectures, Brain Storming Session, field visits, WWF exhibition and quiz competitions.
- Each year World Day to Combat Desertificaion and Drought (17 June) is celebrated by way of organising a lecture by out sider and plantation within and out side the campus.
- Bi-annually newsletter ‘DEN News’ is being brought out by the centre since 1997. Vol. 4 and onwards issues are also available on web site.
- A database of ENVIS centers located in the different parts of the country with subject areas and details about corresponding address including e-mail, telephone no.(s), fax and www has been created and is available on web site.
- The centre continued responding since its inception the queries pertaining to thematic area received from SAARC countries, Govt. Offices, Policy makers, Planners and other research workers in the country and abroad. All these queries were answered through convenient media.
