There will be an optional two-day post-conference tour to Jaisalmer on 29-30 November 2009. Jaisalmer, commonly referred to as the Golden City, lies in the heart of the Thar Desert, and is known for its famous inhabited fort of yellow limestone, founded in 1156 AD on Trikuta Hill rising 76 m above the ground. Beautifully carved Havelies (heritage buildings), temples, balconies, narrow and winding streets with people in colourful ethnic garments, etc., make Jaisalmer a unique tourist destination. Barren sand dunes near Sam village to the west of Jaisalmer are an added tourist attraction for an enchanting view of the sandy desert and for camel rides. Visit to typical villages with traditional water harvesting systems for drinking and agriculture also provides a life-long experience.
